Stephenie Meyer Releases New Book for Tenth Anniversary of Twilight

13 Oct

It’s hard to believe it has been ten years since we first met Edward and Bella in the first Twilight novel. To commemorate the anniversary, Stephenie Meyer decided to release a new novel called Life and Death, which is essentially just swapping out the gender roles in the same story. Meaning that now the main character vampire is a girl named Edythe, and her love interest is a human male named Beau. This was done to show that Bella was not just a “damsel in distress,” just having normal reactions that any human would have to suddenly being surrounded by vampires and werewolves.

It’s an interesting idea, but in my personal opinion, since it is the exact same story, I think I will leave well enough alone and not need to read this new book. Also, I think I’d constantly be trying to swap the characters out in my head to see who they originally were and who they are now, and that could get a little tiring. What is your opinion on the situation? Click on the image below to read more about this new book.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Review

25 Jun

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

Plot: This is the riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.

I really found myself liking Bree and hoping that she would be successful as a vampire. I thought I remembered from Eclipse that all of the newborn vampires were killed in the fight but I still kept hoping they would get away. This was a fun diversion after reading all of the other books, and a quick read, but I was thrown by the fact that there were no chapter breaks like in a regular book.

Would you recommend this book? Yes.

Harry Potter midnight screening smashes previous records

16 Jul

Have you gone to see Harry Potter yet? According to news reports, the  midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which came out  just a few days ago,  immediately smashed box office records, raking in about $42.5 million dollars in the United States and Canada. The previous midnight screening record was set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon in 2009, coming in at about $30 million. It also beat out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1  in ticket sales for opening night.

Take a look at this video of Harry Potter through the years, as we come to the end of this part of the  journey.

Hush, Hush, Review

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Plot: Nora Grey is a high school student who meets a new and mysterious classmate who she is both attracted to and scared by. At the same time she meets him strange and unexplainable events start to occur. She begins to question her sanity and wonders if it is possible that he is a fallen angel.

Nora Grey seems like a real student at a high school and reminded me a lot of Bella from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. Patch seems like a bad boy at times and at others is Nora’s greatest protector. The dialogue between the characters felt real, not forced, and kept the story on track.

Okay, so we don’t use card catalogs anymore, but this was too fun (and distracting) to not pass on! Try a few with a favorite book or make something up completely! Why not even send us a screen shot of one through the Submissions page and we’ll post some! Have fun!

Find the generator here! (Whatever your opinion on Twilight, this was meant in fun!)
